Peoria keeps the racers (and the whiskey) running

Running

ShaZam Racing has pulled a new event off the shelf. The Whiskeydaddle Races include a Boston-qualifying marathon called The Barrel, a half marathon called The Bottle, a marathon relay called The Bootlegger, a 5K race called The Shot and a kids event called The Skidoo. All races are planned for the October 7 weekend in Peoria.

"Participants can expect Peoria’s history as the whiskey capital of the world to shine brightly through various aspects of this new event, including the opportunity for old-time photographs, turn-of-the-century festival games, barrel-shaped age group awards and a Whiskeydaddler costume contest,” Adam White, race director and co-owner of ShaZam Racing, said.

The course will loop through the city, starting downtown, but activities will take place all weekend. An after-party is also planned.

The Whiskeydaddle replaces the PNC Bank Peoria Marathon and River City races. The theme for this year's event is “The Battle for the Daddle!” -- awards known as "Daddles" will be awarded to race winners.

"This event is meant to showcase and to be a celebration of Peoria’s history," White said. "Few people realize just how extraordinary this community was at the turn of the century in the late 1800s and early 1900s. We want to bring that spirit back and offer the entire community something they can be proud to take part in. There will be something for everyone at this new event.”

Registration and event information is available at www.whiskeydaddle.com.
