Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The Brimfield Board of Education held its regular meeting on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Library. Heinz called the meeting to order with the following members were present: Bauer, Thompson, Hoerr, Kenney, Updyke, Graham.

The following visitors were present: Amy Kepple, Lonye Gilles, Trent Trotter, Elizabeth & Jerry Stewart, Phil Molleck, Lenny Livengood, Chris Frail, Dave Harmon.

Bauer moved and Thompson seconded to open the Amended Budget Hearing. Motion carried

Heinz asked for questions from the board members, or the audience. No questions were asked.

Bauer moved and Updyke seconded to close the Amended Budget Hearing. Motion carried

Updyke moved and Kenney seconded to approve the amended budget for FY17. Roll call vote: Bauer – yes, Thompson – yes, Hoerr – yes, Kenney – yes, Updyke – yes, Graham – yes, Heinz – yes. Motion carried

Bauer moved and Thompson seconded to approve the Regular and Closed Session Board Meeting minutes of May 17, 2017, Special Meeting Minutes of May 11, 2017 Extra-Curricular Committee and May 22, 2017 Buildings and Grounds Committee. Motion carried

Mr. Richardson reported on this board report (on file in the Unit office). He also reported that the Triple I conference (school board convention) registrations were currently open, and the district needs to know if anyone will be attending by July 1st.

Mrs. Blane reported on her board report (on file in the Unit office).

Bauer moved and Graham seconded to approve the Grade School and High School Handbooks for FY18. Motion carried

Updyke moved and Thompson seconded to approve the purchase orders in excess of $10,000 for the FY18 school year. Updyke amended the motion, and Bauer seconded to remove Heart Technologies to review their contract, and approve the remaining list. Motion carried

Hoerr moved and Kenney seconded to approve the Title I District Plan. Motion carried

Hoerr moved and Bauer seconded to approve the consent calendar items presented, which included the following items: bills for payment for the month of June, bills for payment after July 1st, but before the July Board Meeting, Position and Treasurer’s report for the month of May, grade school and high school activity reports for the month of May. Bauer asked that other quotes be obtained, when possible, before calling Standard Heating and Air Conditioning. Roll call vote: Graham – yes, Bauer – yes, Thompson – yes, Hoerr – yes, Kenney – yes, Updyke – yes, Heinz – yes. Motion carried

At 7:30 p.m. Bauer moved and Thompson seconded to leave open session and enter into closed session to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of an employee Open Meetings Act, 5ILCS 120, being Sec. 2 (c) Roll call vote: Updyke – yes, Graham – yes, Bauer – yes, Thompson – yes, Hoerr – yes, Kenney – yes, Heinz – yes. Motion carried

At 9:30 p.m. Bauer moved and Updyke seconded to leave closed session and enter into open session. Motion carried

Hoerr moved and Thompson seconded to approve the extra-curricular stipends for the remainder of the agreement between the Brimfield Board of Education and the Brimfield Education Association. Roll call vote: Kenney – yes, Updyke –yes, Graham – yes, Bauer – yes, Thompson – yes, Hoerr – yes, Heinz – yes. Motion carried

Hoerr moved and Kenney seconded to approve the amendment to increase the High School Principal/Superintendent salary by 3.25% for FY18. Roll call vote: Hoerr – yes, Kenney – yes, Updyke – yes, Graham – yes, Bauer – yes, Thompson – yes, Heinz – yes. Motion carried

Bauer moved and Updyke seconded to approve the non-certified salaries for cafeteria, office staff, and custodial/maintenance as presented, option 1. Roll call vote: Thompson – yes, Hoerr –yes, Kenney – no, Updyke – yes, Graham – yes, Bauer – yes, Heinz – yes. Motion carried

Hoerr moved and Graham seconded to approve the employment of Nancy Spencer, High School Business Teacher. Roll call vote: Bauer – yes, Thompson – yes, Hoerr – yes, Kenney – yes, Updyke – yes, Graham – yes, Heinz – yes. Motion carried

Bauer moved and Hoerr seconded to approve the employment of Trent Trotter, Physical Education Teacher. Roll call vote: Graham – yes, Bauer – yes, Thompson – yes, Hoerr – yes, Kenney – yes, Updyke – yes, Heinz – yes. Motion carried

Hoerr moved and Thompson seconded to approve the employment of Tara Binder, Bright Futures assistant. Roll call vote: Updyke – yes, Graham – yes, Bauer – yes, Thompson – yes, Hoerr – yes, Kenney – yes, Heinz – yes. Motion carried

At 9:35 p.m. Bauer moved and Updyke seconded to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried
