Carlinvlle plagued by information request lawsuits, group says

Files2(1000)

The City of Carlinville is facing another in a long line of lawsuits over its alleged refusal to respond to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, according to the Edgar County Watchdogs, who have two lawsuits pending against the city.

The citizens government oversight group reported that Rober Bogue of Paris filed suit after Carlinville did not respond to his FOIA requests or letters from the attorney general’s public access counselor (PAC). The original requests were filed on April 15, and City Clerk and Carlinville FOIA Officer Carla Brockmeier did not respond, the ECW said. Brogue took the issue to the attorney general, but Brockmeier also didn't respond to a letter from the PAC, the group reported. The PAC sent a second letter on June 22, which also did not garner a response.

The ECW said that Brockmeier and the city are legally required to respond to FOIA requests and requests from the PAC. Carlinville is already facing two law suits ECW co-founder John Kraft for similar issues, and the group reported that is has been told of another likely suit.
