Village of Peoria Heights Departmental Committee met Jan. 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm.

Everyone stood for the Pledge to the Flag.

Upon roll call, the following Trustees were present: Harn, Goett, Dan Mariscal, Diane Mariscal, Reichert, and Carter. Others present include: Mayor Phelan, Administrator Fick, Chief Sutton, Director Smith, Clerk Gauf, and Council Tibbs.

The minutes from the Departmental meeting on December 5th, 2017 were approved as written with a motion by Trustee Diane Mariscal and 2nd by Trustee Harn. The motion was passed with a voice vote.

Comments from the Audience: There were no comments from the audience.

Mr. Gene Olson, Director of the Peoria International Airport presented a short video covering the history of the Peoria Airport and discussed the importance of the airport for the Peoria area. He mentioned that market accessibility is essential for economic growth. He also mentioned that there are currently 4 main carriers that use the Peoria airport and discussed some of the growth expected in the future.

Old Business: No old business was discussed.

New Business:

• Administrative: Eric Christian (from HR Fit) presented his findings after interviewing Peoria Heights employees. His focus was to identify issues with current processes and define areas to improve. He presented a hand out of his findings and proposals to board members for their review and suggested another meeting to discuss finding and make decisions on where to go from here.

• Economic and Community Development: Trustee Dan Mariscal made a motion to approve the use of Tower Park and the Village Hall for the St. Jude Run/Walk on Saturday, February 17th, 2018. Trustee Goett 2nd the motion which was approved with a 6-0 vote. (Trustee Harm, Goett, Dan Mariscal, Diane Mariscal, Reichert, and Carter voted aye). Trustee Dan Mariscal made a motion to approve the request to allow the “Run to Remember Fallen Police Officers” to take place on May 5, 2018. The organizers are asking for police assistance in traffic control on several streets in Peoria Heights, including Humbolt, Montclair, Kingman, Prospect and Grandview. Trustee Harn 2nd the motion which was passed with a 6-0 vote. (Trustee Harm, Goett, Dan Mariscal, Diane Mariscal, Reichert, and Carter voted aye).

• Building and Maintenance: Trustee Goett had nothing to report.

• Police: Trustee Carter made a motion to approve Ordinance 2018 – 1536; An Ordinance Amending Title 7, Chapter 2, Section 13 of the Village Code of the Village of Peoria Heights Pertaining to Enforcement of Limitations on Parking of Vehicles. This amendment is to give no grace period for towing vehicles violating the Ordinance. Trustee Goett 2nd the motion and it was approved with a vote of 6-0. (Trustee Harm, Goett, Dan Mariscal, Diane Mariscal, Reichert, and Carter voted aye). Chief Sutton asked the board to advise on what to do about the clean up needed on 900 E. Division. Property owners have not responded to the code violations and Chief Sutton asked for approval to have the property cleaned up either by hiring it out or involving Publics Works.

Payment of the Bills: Trustee Goett made a motion to pay the bills as presented. Trustee Harn 2nd the motion which was approved with a vote of 6-0. (Trustee Harm, Goett, Dan Mariscal, Diane Mariscal, Reichert, and Carter voted aye).

Meeting was adjourned at 7:10 pm with a motion from Trustee Goett and a second by Trustee Dan Mariscal.
