City of Chillicothe Cemetery, Parks, Recreation & Beautification Committee met Oct. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Members of the Cemetery & Parks Committee met in person on October 17, 2023 at 5:05 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

Cemetery & Parks Committee members present at the meeting in the Council Chambers: Chairman Tim White, Alderperson Bredeman, Alderperson Connor

Cemetery & Parks Committee members absent for the meeting in the Council Chambers: None

Others in attendance in the Council Chamber: Clerk Byrnes

Others absent in the Council Chamber: Superintendent Shawn Sutherland

PUBLIC COMMENT:

None.

PURPOSE:

BUDGET REVIEW:

In the absence of Superintendent Sutherland, Chairman T. White updated the Committee on the Cemetery & Parks budget: Cemetery 31.79%, and Parks 33.88%, within the 41.65% budget guidelines.

REVIEW DRAFT ORDINANCE FEE – GRAVE MONUMENT FOUNDATION GUIDELINES & FEE:

After discussion and review it was the consensus of the Committee to move this agenda item to Council for approval.

DISCUSSION – CATHOLIC SECTION OF CEMETERY

After review and discussion Chairman T. White offered to contact City Attorney Kevin Day for recommendations on how to proceed.

CEMETERY MEMORIAL BENCH-SHARON CRABEL

In the absence of Superintendent Sutherland, Chairman T. White updated the Committee that the City has showed placement of the bench to VFW and Mike Ratcliff. Otto's has the engraving complete, and VFW and township will work together to get the bench placed.

HEADSTONE REPAIRS:

In the absence of Superintendent Sutherland, Chairman T. White updated the Committee that Superintendent Sutherland had been in contact with Otto's and they are repairing the headstone as time permits. Chairman T. White will contact Otto's for clarification on how many headstones have been completed.

UPDATE CUTRIGHT PARK VANDALISM & REPAIR

Chairman T. White announced that there has been no new update from Renee Beard, the Cutright Park playground equipment repair has been delayed due to backload of work and would most likely not be repaired until next spring.

SHADE - CANOPY FOR CITY PARK STAGE VIEWING AREA:

Chairman T. White reported to the Committee that per Julie locate only city owned utilities involved in marking out for the Shade Sail. Jerry Myers will mark out underground power line. The Shade Sail is 45 feet x 25 feet.

SHADEMAKERS UPDATE:

Alderperson Connor reported to the Committee that Rich Lucas of Galena Gravel gave permission for Shademakers to landscape the North Welcome sign and requested approval of the proposed contract with Green View. It was the consensus of the Committee to move this item to Council for approval. Alderperson Connor also requested approval of a Pollinator Garden at 1530 Second Street and planting of Downtown Planters for the holiday season on Second Street. It was the consensus of the Committee to move both items to Council for approval.
