City of Chillicothe Cemetery, Parks, Recreation & Beautification Committee met Jan. 16.

Here is the agenda provided by the committee:

Members of the Cemetery & Parks Committee met in person on January 16, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

Cemetery & Parks Committee members present at the meeting in the Council Chambers: Chairman Tim White, Alderperson Bredeman

Others in attendance in the Council Chamber: Mayor Hughes, Clerk Jill Byrnes, Superintendent Shawn Sutherland.

PUBLIC COMMENT:

None.

PURPOSE:

BUDGET REVIEW:

Superintendent Shawn Sutherland reported to the Committee on the Cemetery & Parks budget: Cemetery 50.25% and Parks 40.62%, within the 66.64% budget guidelines.

BUDGET 24-25:

Superintendent Sutherland reported to the Committee that budget adjustments were being made for the 24-25 budget and updates will be reported at the next Cemetery & Parks meeting.

MOFFIT PARK – CHILLICOTHE BOTTOMS SIGNAGE:

Superintendent Sutherland reported to the Committee that Illinois Audubon Society would like signage at Moffit Park. Updates will be reported by Alderperson Connor once she returns from vacation at the next Cemetery & Parks meeting.

DISCUSSION – CATHOLIC SECTION OF CEMETERY:

Chairman T. White updated the Committee that City Attorney Kevin Day reported that the diocese archives department was still researching their records for a possible agreement. Updates will be reported at the next Cemetery & Parks meeting.

ROBIN SAVAGE – MEMORIAL GARDEN:

Chairman T. White reported to the Committee that Robin Savage was currently out of town. Chairman T. White will attempt to contact Robin to advise her the Committee advised against a vegetable garden for fear of maintenance or neglect, suggesting possibly a tree with a plaque at Moffit Park, for ease of maintenance. Chairman T. White to report updates at the next Cemetery & Parks meeting.

HEADSTONE REPAIRS:

Chairman T. White reported to the Committee that he had received an email on Jan 5, 2024 from Otto's indicating work had not yet began on the headstone repairs. Otto's did provide a list of charges and supplies needed for monument repairs once begun. Chairman T. White's concern was that the allotted funds have been in the budget since 2022 with no repairs completed to date. Superintendent Sutherland offered to contact Otto's for clarification on headstone repairs. Updates will be reported at the next Cemetery & Parks meeting.

SHADEMAKERS UPDATE:

No recent meeting - No updates to report.

OLD BUSINESS:

SHADE - CANOPY FOR CITY PARK STAGE VIEWING AREA:

Chairman T. White reported to the Committee that donations are still coming in. The Hometown Voice will be featuring an article on the Shade Canopy and provide a link for donations. Chairman T. White expects to receive the blueprints from the 3 possible Shade Canopy companies within the next 2 weeks. Updates will be reported at the next Cemetery & Parks meeting.

UPDATE CUTRIGHT PARK VANDALISM & REPAIR:

Superintendent Sutherland reported to the Committee that the playground equipment repair has been completed.
