As of March 1, there have been 392,527 Illinois residents in their 50s who have tested positive for COVID-19, according to numbers being reported to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

There have been 6,143,488 residents in their 50s in the state who had been tested, meaning that 6.4 percent of those tested have the coronavirus. Through March 1, there have been 3,033,061 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 32,803 deaths from the coronavirus in Illinois.

Illinois was home to some of the first reported COVID-19 cases in the US. It has suffered numerous waves of the pandemic, which peaked in the fall of 2020. As the Midwestern hub of the US, Illinois businesses suffered greatly, including layoffs at two major airlines based in the state.
