City of Chillicothe Cemetery, Parks, Recreation & Beautification Committee met April 16.

Members of the Cemetery & Parks Committee met in person on April 16, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

Cemetery & Parks Committee members present at the meeting in the Council Chambers: Chairman Tim White, Alderperson Connor.

Cemetery & Parks Committee members absent for the meeting in the Council Chambers: Alderperson Bredeman.

Others in attendance in the Council Chamber: Mayor Hughes, Clerk Jill Byrnes, Superintendent Shawn Sutherland, Alderperson Sharp.

Others absent in the Council Chamber: None

PUBLIC COMMENT:

None.

PURPOSE:

BUDGET REVIEW:

Superintendent Shawn Sutherland reported to the Committee the Cemetery budget is 57.57% and Parks budget is at 46.34%, within the budget guidelines.

DISCUSSION – CATHOLIC SECTION – CEMETERY:

Chairman T. White announced to the Committee he had not received an update from City Attorney Kevin Day or the Catholic Diocese. Chairman T. White will contact City Attorney Kevin Day for guidance on next steps to potentially release the available cemetery lots in the Catholic Section to the general public. Updates will be discussed at the next Cemetery and Parks Committee meeting.

ROBIN SAVAGE – MEMORIAL GARDEN:

Chairman T. White reported to the Committee that Robin Savage is still out of town. Chairman T. White will make a final attempt at reaching Robin Savage regarding her intentions on a Memorial Garden.

HEADSTONE REPAIRS:

Superintendent Sutherland and Chairman T. White informed the Committee they had both attempted to contact Debbie Crew from Otto’s Monument several times, to date she had not returned their calls or submitted an itemized bill for completed repairs. Superintendent Sutherland will reach out to Wyoming Monuments to obtain price quotes on headstone repairs and will report back at the next Cemetery & Parks Committee meeting.

FLAG POLE REPLACEMENT – VETERAN SECTION – CEMETERY:

Superintendent Sutherland reported to the Committee that the flag pole replacement project will be moved forward after May 1, 2024 for the 24-25 City budget.

SHADEMAKERS UPDATE:

Alderperson Connor requested the Committee approve the expense of $1,672.00 for planting of 16 downtown planters. The consensus of the Committee was to move this item to Council for approval.

OLD BUSINESS:

SHADE – CANOPY FOR CITY PARK STAGE VIEWING AREA:

Chairman T. White requested the Committee approve the expense of up to $10,500.00 for the City Park Shade Canopy. Chairman T. White will obtain concrete and installation costs for the project. The consensus of the Committee was this agenda item will be brought forward as a Priority One project at the May 13, 2024 Council meeting.
