City of Marquette Heights City Council met Sept. 8.

CALL TO ORDER

The City Council meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M by Mayor Little.

ROLL CALL

Aldermen present for Roll Call: Alderman Neuhaus, Crum, Babb and Joos.

Also present were Clerk Steele, Treasurer Worent, Attorney Hermann, Police Chief Merritt, Deputy Clerk Minson, Water Superintendent Smith, Street Superintendent Helms, and Building Inspector Dearborn.

Absent: Alderman Sipes, Alderman Neumann and Fire Chief Hermacinski

REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS

Mayor

Requested all Aldermen bring in their tablets to each meeting.

Reviewed a Temporary Sign Permit application

Moment of silence for Chief Judge who was accidentally shot and killed while on duty 56 years ago.

Requested an exec for later to discuss personnel

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES:

Water and Sewer – Alderman Joos

Alderman Crum to follow the developments in regards to litigation and information about PFAS. He asked to have the Engineers brought up to speed and for guidance and oversight.

Well #4 alarm did not go off. Pump 6 was running fine. Going to have this checked out.

Interviewing 2 men for the posted position

Have a new gas meter at the Briarwood station.

Will come up with late notices to give residents notice of water shut offs.

Law Enforcement – Alderman Babb

Chief is working on a skate board ordinance in response to questions from many people.

Streets – Alderman Neumann

4 interviews are set up to fill a full time position

The street poles have been painted

Monthly inspections of the playgrounds have been done

Doing patching around the City

Public Buildings / Parks – Alderman Sipes

Fire – Alderman Neuhaus

Fundraiser is the 20th from 10-2 or until sold out.

Water pump on Ranger 314 is out and a new one will be ordered.

Planning – Alderman Crum

Alderman Crum made a motion, seconded by Neuhaus to approve the Consent Agenda in its entirety. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes, Motion passed.

Approve the regular Council Meeting Minutes of August 25, 2025.

Approve August 11, Executive Council Meeting Minutes.

Approve August 25, Executive Council Meeting Minutes.

Approve the regular Committee Meeting Minutes of September 2, 2025.

Approve September 2, Executive Committee Meeting Minutes.

f. Approve Bi-Monthly expenditures in the sum of: $$65,944.97

NEW BUSINESS

Alderman Babb made a motion, seconded by Joos to approve the two-dollar-an-hour retention increase for part time officers. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes, Motion passed. 01-11-4122

ANY OTHER BUSINESS PERTAINING TO THE CITY.

Alderman Neuhaus made a motion, seconded by Babb, to enter Executive Session at 7:39 p.m. for purpose of discussing of certain personnel. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes. Motion passed.

Council exited Regular Session and entered Executive Session at 7:41 p.m.

Council resumed Regular Session at 8:24p.m.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS PERTAINING TO THE CITY.

ADJOURNMENT

Alderman Neuhaus made a motion, seconded by Alderman Babb, to adjourn the regular City Council Meeting at 8:25 p.m. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes. Motion passed.
