City of Pekin Fire and Police Commission met Feb. 23.

Minutes of the meeting of the Fire and Police Commission held Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. in the City Hall Conference Room.

Present at the meeting: Commissioners Dennis Short, Ed Mulvey

Also present: Deputy Police Chief Jeff Little, Deputy Police Chief Seth Ranney, Lieutenant Courtney Hutchinson, Fire Chief Trent Reeise, Deputy Fire Chief Tony Rendleman

Commissioner Short called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.

A motion was made by Commissioner Short to approve the meeting agenda. Commissioner Mulvey seconded the motion. All in favor.

A motion was made by Commissioner Mulvey to approve the January 26, 2023 meeting minutes. Commissioner Short seconded the motion. All in favor.

Departmental Reports

1. FD – Probationary Reports

No concerns noted.

2. PD – Probationary Reports

Nothing of concern.

3. Budget Letter Request

Commissioners reviewed the FY24 budget request letter. The commission is on track to keep within the budget this year and next year expenditures may be less depending on if we self proctor tests.

4. PD – Application Survey Results

Fourteen applicants attended original appointment testing. One applicant failed the written test, two failed the physical. Discussed the testing and candidates overall.

5. PD Original Appointment Eligibility List

The preliminary edibility list was sent out after testing. Applicants have ten days to submit military requests for additional points. Once the ten days have lapsed, a final list will be submitted and the background process will begin.

6. PD – Lateral Physical Agility Test

It was noted the lateral physical agility test was changed to align with what ILESP standards now are.

7. PD-PM2023-04 Discussed and was agreed upon.

A motion was made by Commissioner Mulvey to receive and file these reports. Commissioner Short seconded the motion. All in favor.

2. PD IL Chiefs, Application Ad, $190.00

A motion was made by Commissioner Mulvey to receive and file these reports. Commissioner Short seconded the motion. All in favor.

Old Business:

FD Promotional Testing Timeline

There are fourteen testing for driver/engineer, four testing for Battalion Chief, and 6 testing for Captain. The exact time of testing is being discussed as to what fits best with scheduling and making

sure all shifts are adequately covered during testing. The FD is working with Steve Hale to proctor tests. Oral interviews are scheduled for March 23, 2023 after the regular Fire and Police Commission meeting.
