The City of Peoria will hold an honorary street naming ceremony on April 17 at the corner of N.E. Jefferson Avenue and Cornhill Street to recognize the life and legacy of Hattie M. Green, a longtime public servant in both city and county roles.

The event will dedicate the 1600 block of N.E. Jefferson Avenue as “Hattie M. Green Avenue.” The city said this honor is meant to celebrate Green’s decades-long commitment to serving residents, particularly her work with victims navigating the legal system.

Green spent over thirty years working in the victim witness office at the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office, where she provided support and guidance to those affected by crime. She also worked with the Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity, helping low-income residents access services.

In addition to her professional work, Green was active as a volunteer in her community, dedicating time and energy toward uplifting others. Her contributions have been recognized by state leaders as well as those whose lives she touched through her service.

Peoria Mayor Rita Ali and Peoria County State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos are scheduled to speak at the ceremony, reflecting on Green’s dedication and impact on local residents.

The public is invited to attend the event honoring Hattie M. Green.
