Darin LaHood, U.S. Congressman representing Illinois’ 16th district since 2015, marked National Agriculture Day and addressed local and state policy issues in a series of posts on his official Twitter account this week.
On March 24, LaHood recognized the contributions of agricultural workers in his district, stating: “Happy National Agriculture Day! America’s farmers and producers are the backbone of our nation — and #IL16 is home to some of the best! Thank you for your tireless work to feed and fuel our country!”
The following day, March 25, LaHood shared details about a visit with Wenona Mayor Janie Bade in Marshall County. He wrote: “Enjoyed visiting with Wenona Mayor Janie Bade during my time in Marshall County to talk about upcoming plans for the city and how my office can be of assistance. I appreciate Mayor Bade and her team for their leadership and service to the people of Wenona!”
Later on March 25, LaHood commented on state immigration policies following a recent death in Illinois. He posted: “Sheridan Gorman’s death was entirely preventable, but Illinois’ reckless sanctuary policies prioritize protecting criminal illegal immigrants instead of our citizens. While Gov. Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson refuse to correct these misguided policies, our Senators are”
LaHood has represented Illinois’ 16th congressional district since succeeding Aaron Schock in 2015. He won re-election in 2022 against Elizabeth Haderlein by a margin of over 30 percentage points. Born in Peoria, Illinois in 1968, LaHood continues to reside there at age 54. He holds degrees from Loras College (BA) and John Marshall Law School (JD).
