Darin LaHood, a U.S. Congressman representing Illinois’ 16th district since 2015, has been vocal about energy independence and tax relief through recent social media updates. On May 13, 2025, he shared insights on the significance of commercial explosives companies in achieving energy independence and detailed his visit to the U.S. Silica Quarry in Ottawa.

On the same day, LaHood mentioned that “Today, @WaysandMeansGOP will markup the One, Big, Beautiful Bill to provide hardworking Americans, seniors, small businesses, and farmers with much-needed tax relief.” He emphasized that this bill aims to offer predictability and certainty for Americans while boosting the U.S. economy.

Later that day, he warned about potential tax increases if President Trump’s tax cuts were allowed to expire. In his tweet “If President Trump’s tax cuts expire, hardworking Americans will experience the largest tax increase in history,” he highlighted features of the proposed bill such as eliminating taxes on tips and preventing a $1,700 tax increase.

Darin LaHood was born in Peoria, Illinois in 1968 and currently resides there. He holds a BA from Loras College and a JD from John Marshall Law School in Chicago.
