On June 6, 2025, LaHood commemorated the anniversary of D-Day with a tweet acknowledging the historical significance of the event. He stated, “Eighty-one years ago, America’s Greatest Generation stormed the beaches of Normandy to defend freedom and democracy around the world. I will always honor the courage and sacrifice of our service members. Their bravery and determination changed the course of history.”

Later that day, he expressed his support for first responders in Illinois’ 16th district by tweeting about his meeting with former East Peoria Fire Chief John Knapp and his son in Washington D.C. In another engagement on June 6, LaHood met with representatives from Illinois State University’s Special Education Department in Washington D.C., emphasizing their vital role in education.
