FOIA Request to City of El Paso Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Peoria Standard have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of El Paso. This request seeks access to records detailing businesses registered with the city over the past week. Specifically, we are requesting information in electronic format that includes the following fields: Business Name, Business Number, Business Type, Business Address, Issued Date, Status, and Registered Agent Name.
Our role as media professionals involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public. Given our position in disseminating information, we believe we qualify for a fee waiver as media professionals.
This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Missouri Corporation dedicated to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. Through leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, we aim to shed light on government actions and help inform the American electorate. For more information about this coalition’s mission and activities, please visit [https://stopsecrecy.org/about/](https://stopsecrecy.org/about/).
We look forward to receiving the requested information promptly and are available for any questions or clarifications needed by the City of El Paso.
