FOIA Request to City of Elmwood Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Peoria Standard have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Elmwood. We are seeking access to records concerning businesses registered with the city over the past week. Specifically, we have requested information that includes the business name, business number, business type, business address, issued date, status, and registered agent name.

Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the community. Given our position in disseminating information, we believe we qualify for a fee waiver as media professionals.

Additionally, we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. This coalition leverages Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws to promote transparency in government actions and inform the American electorate.

We look forward to receiving the requested information from the City of Elmwood and continuing our mission of delivering vital news coverage to our audience.
