FOIA Request to City of Pekin Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Peoria Standard have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Pekin. Our request seeks access to records detailing businesses registered with the city in the past week. Specifically, we are requesting information that includes the business name, business number, business type, business address, issued date, status, and registered agent name.

This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and we have asked for the information to be provided in electronic format. As members of the media dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public, we believe this information is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Furthermore, given our role in disseminating important news to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.

Our organization is also affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit corporation that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. This affiliation underscores our dedication to pulling back the curtain on government actions and informing the American electorate.

We look forward to receiving these records and continuing our mission of delivering essential news coverage to our community.
