On January 28, 2025, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Creve Coeur School District 76. The request was made by us at Peoria Standard, a media organization dedicated to delivering comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request seeks copies of all emails and memos from the past year that contain the keywords “Lucy Calkins” and “Units of Study”. These terms are often associated with educational materials and teaching methodologies. The purpose of this request is to gather information for reporting news to the public. Access to these public records is crucial for our role in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency.

As we disseminate information to the public, we believe we qualify for a fee waiver as media professionals under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.

According to the Illinois Report Card, the average state teacher salary in 2023 was $73,916, while the state average administrative salary stood at $116,908. The average student-to-administrative ratio is reported as 141:1, with an average student-to-teacher ratio of 17:1. It’s also worth noting that 58% of teachers in Illinois hold a master’s degree or higher.

We await a response from Creve Coeur School District 76 regarding our FOIA request.
