FOIA Request to Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Regarding Inmates with ICE Detainers on February 18, 2025.

In a recent effort to uphold transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at Peoria Standard sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. The request was made on February 18, 2025, and it pertains specifically to inmates who have had an Immigration Detainer issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency lodged against them since January 29, 2024.

We also requested documents related to requests from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security regarding civil enforcement that are reportable under the TRUST Act and/or the Illinois VOICES Act. Additionally, we sought information about Immigration Detainers received from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security which are also reportable under these Acts.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy supports our efforts in this endeavor. As a non-profit corporation, they assist news media companies, publications, and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies using Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.

We eagerly await a response from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office as we continue our mission of informing the American electorate about important matters such as these.
