A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Tazewell County Clerk’s office on January 14, 2025. The request was made by us at Peoria Standard, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The request specifically sought records of candidates running for the 2025 Consolidated Elections. We asked for a list of these candidates with specific details including their names, the dates they filed their candidacy, and the offices they are running for.

As a media organization, we emphasized our role in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

In line with this commitment, we also expressed our belief that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information.

We await the response from the Tazewell County Clerk’s office regarding this FOIA request.
