FOIA Request to West Peoria City Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Peoria Standard have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the city of West Peoria. This request seeks detailed records of businesses registered with the city over the past week. Specifically, we are requesting information that includes the business name, business number, business type, business address, issued date, status, and registered agent name.

Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news to the public while holding public institutions accountable. Access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities and provide transparency to the community. Given our function in disseminating information, we believe we qualify for a fee waiver as media professionals.

Additionally, we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. Through leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, this coalition aims to shed light on government actions and inform the American electorate.

We look forward to receiving the requested information promptly and remain available for any questions or clarifications needed by the city officials.
