Grace Roberts, a labor and delivery nurse at Springfield Memorial Hospital, was named the March Colleague of the Month, according to an April 8 announcement.

The recognition highlights staff members who show excellence in their roles and reflect the hospital’s mission and values. Roberts received the award after being nominated by a patient who experienced a difficult labor.

The patient wrote that “from the minute I was placed in a delivery room to the birth of my new baby and the end of her shift, Grace was a blessing. She was attentive, caring, engaging and committed to me and my comfort.” During an epidural procedure that proved challenging, Roberts provided support and encouragement. When complications arose with an unexpected drop in blood pressure, she responded quickly.

“Grace checked on me often, offered different methods of comfort and also gave me space to try to relax,” the patient said in her nomination. “Overall, she was a wonderful caretaker, nurse and friend when I needed it.”

Roberts has worked at Memorial Health since 2002. She is also recognized as a six-time DAISY award winner—an international honor for nurses who provide extraordinary compassionate care.

The Colleague of the Month award aims to celebrate those who go above and beyond for patients at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
