Beginning Wednesday, February 18, the southbound lane of North MacArthur Highway between West Brotherson Street and West John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue will close to all traffic. The closure is part of the MacArthur Highway – MacArthur Bridge to Howett Street – Rehabilitation Project and is expected to continue through the summer.
Drivers are advised to follow marked detour routes and exercise caution in the area. Alternative routes are recommended for those traveling through this section.
The closure will affect several roads connected to North MacArthur Highway. The southbound lane will not be accessible between West Brotherson Street and West John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue, prohibiting all southbound traffic in that segment. Northbound drivers should also be aware of changes in the traffic pattern.
In addition, several streets will be closed at their intersections with North MacArthur Highway: West Adrian G. Hinton Avenue, West Aiken Avenue, West Smith Street, and West Johnson Street.
Southbound drivers are directed to use a detour via West John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue to North Richard Pryor Place and then Jefferson Avenue.
The city encourages motorists to stay alert for closures and use alternate routes as needed.
