Memorial Specialty Care Cardiology received a new electrocardiogram (EKG) machine in March, funded by donor support through the Decatur Memorial Foundation. The $21,500 equipment is already being used to enhance cardiac care for patients in Decatur and nearby areas.
The addition of the EKG machine is important because it allows for faster and more accurate heart health assessments. The device uses advanced signal processing technology that produces high-quality waveform readings with less interference, helping cardiologists get clearer information about their patients’ conditions.
Brent Ryherd, director of Specialty Services, said, “The new EKG equipment is making an immediate difference. There’s no more waiting around for an EKG machine, which has really helped with workflow efficiency, provider and staff satisfaction, and timeliness of patient appointment times in cardiology.”
Another benefit of the new equipment is its integration with electronic health records. Test results are sent directly into a patient’s chart as soon as a reading is complete. This process removes the need for manual data entry and helps reduce errors so doctors have up-to-date information when making decisions about patient care.
Kimberly Paskiewicz, system administrator for Memorial Health Ambulatory Networks, said, “This kind of improvement speaks to how the right equipment, in the right setting, can transform the day-to-day experience for both clinical staff and the patients we serve. We’re grateful to the Foundation for this important purchase.”
The introduction of this technology highlights ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery through modern tools and community support.
