A recent economic forecast from Moody’s predicts that Illinois will continue to experience job losses and a declining population. The “State of Illinois Economic Forecast Report” highlights ongoing trends since the 2020 U.S. Census, with the state expected to see further reductions in its population.

The report notes that new jobs are not being created in Illinois, which has led many young adults to seek career opportunities elsewhere. In response to these findings, some officials have called for policy changes. One statement from the report reads: “We can make Illinois a destination for growth by reducing burdensome taxes on families and job creators.”

Travis Weaver, who was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 93rd House District in 2023, replaced Norine Hammond in this role.
