The City of Peoria announced on Apr. 15 that it will celebrate Arbor Day with a ceremonial tree planting along the city’s riverfront in partnership with the South-West Kiwanis Club of Peoria and the Peoria Park District.
The event is scheduled for Friday, April 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Riverfront Festival Park near the Gateway Building. Residents are invited to attend and participate in commemorating Arbor Day.
This year, Peoria has once again been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA community, marking its thirty-third consecutive year receiving this designation. The Tree City USA program honors cities that meet four core standards for urban forestry management.
According to city officials, the Public Works Forestry Division plants between seventy and one hundred trees each year. These plantings take place in city-owned lots, rights-of-way, boulevard areas, and throughout Downtown to improve environmental health and quality of life for residents.
By continuing these efforts and maintaining its Tree City USA status, Peoria joins more than three thousand four hundred communities nationwide committed to sound urban forestry practices.
