Several Peoria County government offices will be closed to the public on Monday, February 16, 2026, in observance of Presidents Day. The affected offices include the Peoria County Courthouse, Veterans Assistance Commission, Animal Protection Services (PCAPS) offices, Regional Office of Education, Coroner’s Office, and Highway Department.
The Peoria City/County Health Department offices located in the Health & Human Services building will remain open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on February 16. Additionally, the Election Commission will be available for early voting that day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Animal control officers will continue their duties and can be contacted at (309) 674-3131.
The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, Jail, and Juvenile Detention Center will maintain regular staffing and operations; however, records and in-person visitation services will not be available on February 16. Remote inmate visitation remains accessible during this period, and the bonding lobby will operate under its usual schedule.

Peoria County schools had an average student-to-teacher ratio of 15-to-1 during the 2022-23 academic year. There were a total of 27,081 students enrolled with 1,844 full-time faculty members across local schools according to data from the Illinois State Board of Education (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx). Teacher absenteeism in county schools was reported at 32.3% for that year—lower than the statewide average of 35.6% (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx).
Of note among local schools: Dunlap High School had the highest enrollment of white students with a total of 873; Richwoods High School recorded the highest number of multiracial students at 182; Lincoln School had the largest Hispanic student enrollment with 218; while Peoria High School enrolled the most Black students at 798 (all statistics via https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx).
