Rainfall in Peoria has led to a combined sewer overflow into the Illinois River within the past 24 hours, according to a recent alert from city officials. The overflow occurred at one or more locations detailed on an online map provided by the City of Peoria.

Residents are advised to avoid full-body contact with the Illinois River downstream from Detweiller Marina. The city warns that swimming, jet skiing, or water skiing in these areas could lead to illness if river water is swallowed after such an event.

The City of Peoria continues work on projects aimed at reducing combined sewer overflows during wet weather. These efforts are part of compliance with requirements under the Clean Water Act and a CSO Consent Decree.
