PeoriaCorps Graduation Ceremony Scheduled for March 20

The public is invited to attend the graduation ceremony for PeoriaCorps on Monday, March 20, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at 813 SW Washington Street.    Launched in October 2017, the PeoriaCorps Program aimed to provide a career track and opportunities for unemployed workers 18 years and older.  Corps members have the opportunity, through hands-on training, to gain skills in environmental beautification/stewardship and green landscaping solutions. In addition to field work, members receive classroom training in soft skills, vital to the career building process. For the past six months, this cohort has worked on green infrastructure projects that include planting trees, harvesting, and planting native plants, and cleaning, weeding, and maintaining green infrastructure practices around the city of Peoria.  Corps members have also had the opportunity for career exploration and have earned their OSHA 10 certification for General Industry. The event will highlight the successful completion of PeoriaCorps’ 7th cohort, including members: Jaylen Green, Benjamin Reyes, Nyja Robinson, and Erin Williams, along with the accomplishments of current and past AmeriCorps members since the groups founding in October 2017.  Andre Allen, Chief Diversity Officer for Peoria County and Councilman for Peoria’s 4th district will be the guest speaker.  PeoriaCorps has begun its recruitment and enrollment for its 8th cohort. The 8th cohort will begin March 27th, 2023.  Individuals interested in earning an education award, receiving a stipend, and enhancing their skills gain through obtaining an industry recognized credential should complete the job application on the City of Peoria website. Questions may be directed, Amelia Ohlrogge, at (309) 494-8842 or by email.
