(PEORIA, IL) The public is invited to attend the graduation ceremony for PeoriaCorps on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at 813 SW Washington Street. The graduation will highlight the successful completion of PeoriaCorps’ eighth cohort, including, Nadia Altom, Stephanie Moreno, Kameron Sheetz, Frederick Williams, and Jonathan Vota. The featured speaker will be Sherry Carter-Allen. The city of Peoria acknowledges the hard work and dedication of these graduates, who have not only completed their service but have also gained valuable skills and deepened their commitment to civic engagement.

For the past six months, members have worked on green infrastructure projects that include planting trees, harvesting and planting native plants, and maintaining green infrastructure projects around the city of Peoria.   Corps members have also had the opportunity for career exploration and have earned their OSHA 10 certification for General Industry.

Since its inception in October 2017, the PeoriaCorps Program has provided a career track and opportunities for unemployed workers 18 years and older.  Through this program, Corps members have gained skills in environmental beautification/stewardship and green landscaping solutions. In addition to field training, members receive classroom training in soft skills, which are vital to the career-building process.

PeoriaCorps is currently recruiting its ninth cohort, scheduled to begin in October 2023.  Individuals interested in earning an education award, receiving a stipend, and receiving an industry-recognized credential should complete the job application on the city of Peoria website.
