Illinois State Representative Travis Weaver introduced his Page for the Day, Silas, on the House floor on March 25. Weaver said Silas is an outstanding student and a talented tennis player who hopes to become a lawyer in the future.

The recognition highlights efforts by state lawmakers to engage students in government and encourage their interest in public service. Programs like Page for the Day give young people firsthand experience with legislative proceedings.

“Yesterday, I was proud to introduce my Page for the Day on the House Floor. Silas is a wonderful student and great tennis player who aspires to be a lawyer. Thank you for coming to Springfield, and good luck in your future endeavors!” Weaver said.

Weaver, a Republican, began serving in the Illinois State House in 2023 after being elected to represent the state’s 93rd District, replacing Norine Hammond according to Ballotpedia.

As more students participate in programs like this one, local officials say they hope it will inspire civic engagement among young people across Illinois.
