Resurfacing work on Jefferson Avenue in Peoria will move from the south side to the north side starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 20, weather permitting, according to an announcement released April 17.

The shift is part of ongoing improvements and will bring new lane and parking restrictions between the Interstate 74 overpass and N. William Kumpf Boulevard. City officials said drivers should expect long delays and are strongly advised to use alternative routes during this period.

As part of the project, striping work will also continue along Adams Street in the south side parking lane from N. William Kumpf Boulevard to Hamilton Boulevard. The affected parking lanes will be closed while crews are working, with all vehicles parked in restricted areas subject to towing. On-street parking restrictions will remain as long as meters are bagged.

The two far-right lanes on Jefferson Avenue within the designated area will be closed to all traffic beginning Monday morning. Additional off-street parking options are available at Niagara and Jefferson parking decks for those affected by street closures or limited access.

Drivers exiting the Twin Towers Parking Deck should anticipate delays due to resurfacing activity and are encouraged to use Madison Avenue or Monroe Street for deck access via Fulton Street. Lane closures and parking restrictions may change daily; motorists are urged to exercise caution around construction zones, watch for workers and equipment, follow posted signage, and cooperate with flaggers when present.

Daily updates about progress will continue until resurfacing is complete. The Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue One-Way to Two-Way Conversion Project is entering its final months with completion expected by early summer.
