The City of Peoria announced on March 13 that both southbound lanes of North University Street, from West Cherokee Lane to the entrance of the North University Post Office, will be closed starting at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18. The new traffic pattern is expected to remain in place until June, depending on weather conditions.

The closure will result in a head-to-head traffic configuration for both northbound and southbound vehicles on North University Street. The northbound lanes will be reduced to one lane in each direction during this period.

Left turns from northbound North University Street onto westbound West Northmoor Road and from southbound North University Street onto eastbound West Northmoor Road will still be allowed. Access to properties adjacent to the closed southbound lanes will be maintained, but properties along this section—including Richwoods High School—are advised to use entrances along West Northmoor Road.

Drivers are being warned to expect delays and are urged to exercise extreme caution while traveling through the area. The city strongly advises motorists to consider alternative routes during the construction period.

The temporary changes aim to facilitate necessary work while maintaining access for local residents and businesses.
