Self-screening, prioritizing and spotting red flags are a few of the useful subject areas Peoria officials will cover for tenants and prospective tenants in a seminar on March 30.

Hoping to help renters and landlords maintain an optimal quality of life, the Community Development Department-sponsored event will also offer insights on communicating effectively, understanding leases, adhering to safety and cleanliness expectations, dealing with neighbors and making monthly rental payments a top priority by establishing a feasible household budget. The viewpoint of property owners will also be examined.

Speakers including representatives from the city administration and Prairie State Legal Services and Navicore Solutions will review FAQ’s about property maintenance law and renting procedures in Peoria, present information about tenants’ legal rights and provide guidance on how renters can improve their financial literacy.

The workshop will begin at 6 p.m. at the Carver Center, 710 W. Third Street. Although it is free to attend, reservations are suggested, as space is limited. Enrollment can be done by calling Raven Fuller at 309-494-8636.
