Larry Smith resigned from the Carlinville Park District Board on Aug. 30, the Edgar County Watchdog (ECW) reported recently.

The ECW said that Smith read a letter to the rest of the board and public attendees at the end of the night's meeting, noting that in his four years on the board the area's parks and pools had been upgraded.

Carlinville resident Matt Turley videotaped the meeting, which was uploaded to YouTube. In the video, Smith tells Turley that his resignation was the result of a telephone call on Aug. 29 and discussions with his wife.

"My style of hands-on leadership is not working at the parks district," he says in the video. "I am not on the same page as some, and at times the stress of leadership has been detrimental to my health and my family

He also suggested that he was no longer in touch with the needs of the board.

"This type of leadership is for younger members who are in tune with today's situations," he said. "Therefore, it is my decision to resign from the Carlinville Park District Board."
