Three Illinois facilities in the OSF HealthCare system recently received “A” grades from a national patient-safety watchdog group.
A recent release on PeoriaChamber.org said The Leapfrog Group gave top grades to St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa and St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. St. Joseph and St. Mary have received “A” grades from the beginning of the group's grading, which started in 2012.
Also, three OSF facilties in the state received “B” grades: Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria and Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton.
OSF's facilities in Mendota, Monmouth, Kewanee and Pontiac, Illinois, and Escanaba, Michigan, were not eligible for the grading system because of their size.
The Leapfrog Group gives “A” grades to fewer than 3 percent of facilities. The group grades more than 2,600 facilities on a biannual basis and employs 30 measures of data that are available to the public. The grades are tabulated by experts in patient safety and peer-reviewed.
OSF HealthCare is headquartered in Peoria and has 11 hospitals and two nursing colleges.
