The Morton Community Bank's Fondulac division in East Peoria's Clock Tower Place Building is exhibiting a Rolan Johnson Mosaic Christmas Cards collection through the first week of 2018.
The art exhibit features the collection of Johnson’s colorful works, which are holiday scenes replicated and presented in up to a 12-inch-by-18-inch format.
The screen-print artist, who owned the self-named company in Peoria before he died, designed unique printed Christmas cards in a mosaic design. Only a few hundred people were on the original distribution list of his works, yet the list eventually grew to an impressive 2,000 recipients. When Johnson died in 2000, the unique representation of the Christmas card tradition died with him.
That’s where Phyllis Dittmer came in. Dittmer was the holder of the collection. She died in 2016, and her son Bob Dittmer organized the collection’s display. He is an an executive vice president at the bank.
According to organizers of the event, ornaments that feature the specialized artwork can be purchased at a number of area locations, including branches of Morton Community Bank.
The collection can be viewed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. It is closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
