Morton FD responds to 29 fires in 2017

Morton Fire Department responded to 100 calls in 2017 - 29.1 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Morton included 29 fires - 10 structure fires, six vehicle fires and 13 other fires.

In all, the department saw $698,700 in fire loss - or about $24,093 per fire.

The department also received 71 false calls.

The Morton Fire Department had an annual budget of $37,510 in 2017.

The Morton Grove Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 40 active employees and 52 retired or inactive employees, was $575,838 in debt as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $15,996 for every fire in 2016.
