Northern Tazewell Fire Protection District responded to 41 calls in 2017 - 310 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Northern Tazewell included 23 fires - nine structure fires, two vehicle fires and 12 other fires.

In all, the department saw $126,500 in fire loss - or about $5,500 per fire.

The department also received 18 false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.

The Northern Tazewell Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $232,585 in 2017.
