CITY OF LEXINGTON CITY COUNCIL: Fills Ward 6 Vacancy

Appoint

City of Lexington City Council issued the following announcement on June 25.

The Lexington City Council appointed Ms. Whitney Brooks to fill the Ward 6 vacancy at its June 25, 2018 City Council meeting. Mayor Newell Clark administered the oath of office and Ms. Brooks took over the role immediately.

Ms. Brooks is very active in the community, previously serving as Executive Director of the Edward C. Smith Civic Center from 2013 through 2015. She was instrumental in discussions to build the new electronic vintage marquee at the center and started initiatives like the Community Art Wall. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Women’s Studies from the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

• Hospice of Davidson County Grief Program Volunteer

• Center for Creative Leadership Volunteer with Egyptian Women in Business through Leadership Beyond Boundaries Program

Ms. Brooks says she believes the position on City Council is the best way to serve her community and play an active role in the progression of the city. She also says, “The time is right for a younger voice on the Council, as well as an additional female voice, one that is experienced in the community and has built a solid foundation of positive relationships.”

The decision to appoint Ms. Brooks was unanimous.

Ms. Brooks fills an unexpired term, scheduled to expire in December, 2019. The vacancy occurred as a result of the resignation of John Horne on April 1, 2018.
