Creve Coeur School District 76 students suspended 130 times in a single school year

Creve Coeur School District 76 reported 130 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The district transferred one students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 130 students during the year. That equates to 21.8 percent of the 595 students enrolled.

Of the 80 in-school suspensions, 63 were given to boys and 17 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 73 incidents. There were seven incidents of violence without physical injury. For 69 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 50 out-of-school suspensions, 35 were given to boys and 15 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 35 incidents. There were 12 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 22 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
