Eureka Community Unit School District 140 students suspended 88 times in a single school year

Eureka Community Unit School District 140 reported 88 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 88 students during the year. That equates to 5.6 percent of the 1,559 students enrolled.

Of the 54 in-school suspensions, including 14 elementary or middle schoolers and 40 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 44 incidents. There were nine incidents of violence without physical injury. For 53 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 34 out-of-school suspensions, including 15 elementary or middle schoolers and 19 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 19 incidents. There were 11 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 23 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
