City of Canton Fire and Police Commission met September 11. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the commission:

A regular meeting of the Canton Fire and Police Commission was held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. The meeting was called to order at 1:11 p.m. by Commissioner Mayall.


Present:    Commissioner Chad Mayall    Public Safety Director Dick Fairburn

                  Commissioner Greg Gossett

                  Commissioner Samantha Norton

Public Participation- none

A Motion was made by Commissioner Norton seconded by Commissioner Gossett to accept the Minutes of the August 14, 2018 regular meeting. All Ayes, motion carried.

A Motion was made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Norton to accept the Budget. All Ayes, motion carried.

Training certificates: No certificates were presented.

Old Business –

Probationary Employees: PS Director Fairburn reported that both are doing well. The new officer started August 30 and has come up to speed quickly due to being a lateral with experience.

Bills: A Motion was made by Commission Mayall seconded by Commissioner Gossett to pay the following bills:

To Campion Barrow & Associates in the amount of $ 425.00 for a psychological exam for Chris Carrier.

To IWIRC in the amount of $667.54 for physical exam for Chris Carrier, in the amount of $11.25 for a TB follow-up.

All Ayes, Motion carried.

Testing Cycles: The Orientation and Written Test were held for the Fire Initial Testing, and Commissioner Mayall presented the written scores. Of the eleven candidates, three did not show up. Oral interviews will be held on Saturday, Sept 22.

The PD Sergeant promotional is still in the study stage, but a date of October 27 was chosen for the written test and the oral interviews, depending on the number testing. Carol will contact each potential candidate to see if they are planning to take the test.

New Business : The date for the October meeting was changed to October 10, because Carol will not be available on the regular date of October 9.

Having no other business, a Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall seconded by Commissioner Gossett to adjourn the meeting. All Ayes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 1:23 p.m.
