City of Mason City Council met Sept. 24.
Here is the minutes provided by the council:
Call to order by Mayor Bruce Lowe.
Council members physically present were Aldermen Gerald Mahin, Dan Mason, Scott Francis, Mike Kirby, John Dodson and Jim Miller. Also present were City Clerk Michele Whitehead, Superintendent Wayne Dixon, Rossi Filliponi, Mr. & Mrs. Cardoni, Julie Mize.
The Chairman declared quorum present.
The minutes of the September 10, 2018 regular Council meeting were approved.
Mr. Filliponi addressed the Council regarding his downtown building. He had spoken with a Police officer and felt the conversation wasn’t conducted in as professional a manner as it should have been. Mr. Filliponi explained his issues with regard to renovation on his building, and he was given a 1yr extension earlier in the year and assured the Council that he would continue working on the building. This was satisfactory to the Council at this time.
Mr. Cardoni addressed the Council that he had been informed he needed to trim the trees and brush away from his alleyway. He was told the City would haul the debris away. The City does not haul away yard waste for citizens unless it is after a major storm. Superintendent Dixon agreed to assess the pile of debris and work with Mr. Cardoni to help him get it to the burn pile located at the City lagoon. The lagoon is closed to accepting brush as this time from the public due to the large volume, however an exception will be made for Mr. Cardoni’ s debris.
Julie Mize attended the meeting to continue to be updated on the ordinance violations. She also complained of not having a very productive conversation with the Chief of Police regarding garbage and other violations.
