Sofball

Canton Area Chamber Of Commerce issued the following announcement on Oct. 30.

My name is Chance Simpson, from Lewistown, IL and my business I have started is The Grind Hitting and Pitching Facility. My business open date is as of right now going to be November 1st of 2018. A little bit about me, I played collegiate baseball for 4 years, 2 at the junior college level at Lincoln College and my last 2 years in NCAA D2 level for the University of Illinois Springfield where I also graduated with a bachelors in Psychology. After college I chased my dreams of playing professional baseball at the independent level. I have played pro ball for past 3 years while also substitute teaching. I have played in several different leagues with several different organizations. I recently played for the Normal Cornbelters in Bloomington Illinois this past summer. Having all of this experience I have decided to share it with the youth and the small town kids from the area. For the past year I have been doing private lessons in Lewistown and I have drawn a decent crowd from around the area for that. After doing this for some time and seeing what some of my friends have done in this area, I have decided to start my own indoor hitting and pitching facility. In this facility I will be offering individual hitting and pitching lessons, group lessons, cage and mound rentals to individuals, groups or even teams in the area. I am starting this business because growing up around here I never had anything like this close enough or even in my price range. As of now this is the only facility of its kind within an hour drive, and the prices are very reasonable compared to the places in the Peoria area. For those that will be coming in for lessons, I have some amazing help for the baseball and the softball side. For baseball a few of the people are Trey Hannam who is the hitting coach at Western Illinois and has played 2 years of pro ball and I played college ball with him as well. Kenny Hawkins will be helping as well and he coaches at Robert Morris in Peoria, recently coached at Spoon River College and also does a lot of lessons on the side and knows a lot of people in the baseball world. I have another guy from Indiana who will be helping from time to time when he can make the trip, Gabe Acevedo who I played with at college and he also has some pro ball experience as well. As for softball I have Joey Mclaughlin from Lewistown, he coaches at Lewistown High School and has a successful past with the softball team. Ashlyn Towery will also be helping here at The Grind and she has had a successful high school career in Lewistown and is currently playing college ball at Spoon River College. I have some more things in the works at the moment to bring in something big to my facility but do want to disclose that at this time. As for hours of operation and scheduling lessons the building will basically be able to be opened up almost anytime as long as the instructor working with you is able to be
