CANTON CITY: Community Partners to host Career Expo for CHS

Career

Canton City issued the following announcement on March 18.

The Canton Area Chamber of Commerce, U of I Extension, Spoon River College, and SIU School of Medicine will host the Canton Career Expo on Friday, March 22nd in at Canton High School. This is the largest career event CHS has seen with 45 area employers participating. During each rotation presenters will give an overview of their profession, answer questions while leading the students in a hands-on activity.

160 seniors will attend the morning session, and 162 juniors will attend the afternoon session. They will be divided into six groups to rotate through six “career cluster” areas. These areas are:

• Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources

• Arts, Communications, & Information Systems

• Engineering, Manufacturing, & Technology

• Health & Life Sciences

• Human Services

• Business, Management, & Administration

A brief orientation leading up to the event will take place to prepare the students for what to expect. The students will be able to see the list of employers in each cluster and choose 2 they want to engage with in each career cluster. During the orientation CHS junior and seniors will also learn about important networking skills and how to make a great first impression. Our committee’s goal is to offer a diverse program with engaging activities at each booth. We want our students to engage with local employers and experience hands-on the various career opportunities available in this region.
