CITY OF CHAMPAIGN TOWNSHIP: Work on Bradley Avenue begins March 20 Bridge Replacement, Bike/Ped Accommodations On Tap

City of Champaign Township issued the following announcement on March 18.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that construction on Bradley Avenue over Interstate 57 will begin Wednesday, March 20.

The work involves removal and replacement of the bridge that carries Bradley Avenue over I-57, addition of bike lanes and sidewalks to the bridge, and drainage improvements. To facilitate this project, Bradley Avenue will be closed through the end of November. I-57 may have sporadic closures, but only at night.

To safely guide motorists around the work zone, a detour will be posted that utilizes Duncan Road, Springfield Avenue and Staley Road.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
