The price of local government in 2017: City of Eureka

The City of Eureka budget was $4.89 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $2,578 per household.

That's an increase of 20.9 percent from 2016, when the city spent $4.05 million, or $2,133 per household.

Eureka has 1,897 households and a population of 5,383.

Since 2001, the City of Eureka budget has grown by 47.7 percent, from $3.31 million. The city population has grown 21.4 percent over the same period, from 4,435.

Salaries accounted for 20.1 percent of city spending in 2017. Eureka property taxpayers paid $982,035 for 16 full-time employees and 33 part-time employees.

In 2001, the city had 19 full-time employees and 24 part-time employees, and spent $1.08 million.
