City of Canton Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met Aug. 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

A regular meeting of the Canton Fire and Police Commission was held on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. The meeting was called to order at 1:05 p.m. by Commissioner Mayall.

Present: Commissioner Samantha Norton

Commissioner Chad Mayall

Public Safety Director Dick Fairburn

Absent: Commissioner Greg Gossett

Public Participation- none

Motions were made by Commissioner Norton seconded by Commissioner Mayall to accept the Minutes of the June 11 and July 9, 2019 regular meetings. All Ayes, motions carried. Motions were made by Commissioner Norton seconded by Commissioner Mayall to accept the July budget. All Ayes, motions carried.

Training certificates: none

Old Business – PS Director Fairburn reported that the grievance filed by a police officer has been through arbitration, and that the records of disciplinary action will be removed from that officer’s file.

Bills: One bill was presented to IPMA-HR in the amount of 123.50 for written test materials for the PD Lieutenant testing. Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall seconded by Commissioner Norton to pay the bill. All Ayes, Motion carried.

Testing Cycles: The PD Initial hiring list is set to expire in September. Commissioners discussed the schedule for advertising, applications, and testing. Advertising will begin asap, with applications being made available immediately this year, instead of the traditional release of the application on a certain day. The commissioners also shortened the time period for applications to be due. These changes will shorten the entire process by about a month. Testing was tentatively set for October 5 and October 12.

Having no other business, a Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall seconded by Commissioner Norton to adjourn the meeting. All Ayes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 1:31 p.m.
