CANTON CITY: City of Canton Police Department Accepting Applications for Testing

Canton City issued the following announcement on Jan. 20.

Applications are now available for persons interested in testing for positions with the Canton Police Department. Both Initial Hire applications and Lateral Transfer are available for download below or pickup in the Mayor's Office, 2 N. Main Street, Canton, M-F, 8am-5pm. Late applications will not be considered.

Testing for Initial Hire candidates will include an Orientation/Physical Ability Test, Written Test and an Oral Interview.

Testing for Lateral Transfer candidates will include the Written Test and an Oral Interview. This list will be separate, with candidates remaining on the list for a maximum of two years.

Age of applicants: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age or under 35 years of age at the time of application (March 6, 2020) unless otherwise exempt from such age limitation provided in Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Illinois Fire and Police Commissioners Act. Anyone 20 years of age and who has successfully completed 2 years of law enforcement studies at an accredited college or university is also eligible to test.

Requirements: Applicants must possess a high school degree or G.E.D. equivalent, and hold a valid driver’s license. Upon offer of employment, candidate must pass a polygraph, psychological exam, and medical exam.

Starting salary is $49,766.78. Benefit package includes comprehensive medical coverage, dental and life insurance. Police officers are covered by the Illinois Fire and Police Pension Fund, as well as PEHP (Post Employee Health Plan).

Residency: Police officers shall become a resident of the city of Canton or reside within a 25 minute drive of the Canton Police Department within 90 days after completion of the probationary year.
